School History

In 1991, Woodside Elementary School opened its doors with 24 classrooms for kindergarten through grade six. The school began its first year with over six hundred students. Students, teachers and community members took part in the naming of this school. A contest was held and Woodside Elementary School was chosen due to the wooded neighborhood in which the school is located. The school mascot was again selected by the help of the school population with the students choosing the wolf to represent the school.

Nestled in a residential neighborhood surrounded by trees, the school currently enrolls about 350 students in grades k-5 with an average class size of 18 students. The school has approximately 60 staff members including classroom teachers, specialists and special education teachers, as well as various support staff.
Community plays an integral role to this school’s population. In 1994, VP23 from Brunswick Naval Air Station adopted the school becoming its first community partner in the “Adopt a School Program.” When the Seahawks deployed later that year, VP26 continued this connection with the school. This valuable resource has brought many volunteers through the doors of Woodside. Parents as well are very active volunteers in this school bringing much value and support to the education of our students. Other community functions beyond the regular school day are: Family Focus Day Care, scouts, intramurals, town meetings, parents groups just to name a few.
